First of all, I love the fact that despite the odds, All My Children and One Life To Live are back.
I love the fact that so many of our favorites have made the transition and remained with the show. Sure there are many others who I miss and hope will be back. Some have contractual obligations they need to complete before they are eligible to return. Some are simply too busy with other endeavors. In time, I believe most of these actors will in fact be back on the show. We need to have faith as fans. Most of us were skeptical that our shows would be back at all, so keep the faith.
I like the fact that All My Children is, from my perspective, distancing itself from the ridiculous ending that aired on ABC. The writers decided to pick up the action five years after the cliff hanger. This was a good way to put a period of time that seperates the story telling from the old ludicrous stories that pushed fans away in droves, to the new stories that are being developed.
The overall look of the new All My Children is really nice. The sets seem to be somewhat smaller than they were but they look great. The camera work seems to mesh well with the stories so far. One thing that got me excited was the location footage they shot as Pete Cortlandt drove back into Pine Valley. I loved seeing the streets of Pine Valley. I even saw a street sign for High School Lane - where I imagine Pine Valley High is located.
All My Children still has the feel of the show I feel in love with. Sure things are different. Some favorites are missing and the show is only a half an hour. There's enough continuity that it feels familiar and comfortable. The new cast members fit their roles very well. As they learn the demanding craft of working on a soap, they're sure to get even better. I hope they have sense enough to learn everything they can from the veterans who have managed to maintain successful careers on soaps.
I LOVE that Prospect Park recognizes the genius of Agnes Nixon and brought her in to consult in order to make the transition and overall vision for the new All My Children even better than the original.
I love being able to watch All My Children whenever I want, wherever I want. All My Children was the most recorded TV show in the United States for many years. Fans have long wanted a way to keep up with the show even if it meant viewing at a different time than the shows aired. Now the time they watch is up to each viewer.
Two years is a long time, and it seemed even longer at times - especially when I lost hope that my shows would be back. Yes, this has been a very good week for me. I finally feel that I can go back home - to Pine Valley where I intend to stay for many years to come.
